ZigBee

ZigBee is a standard for wireless personal area networking, promoted by the ZigBee Alliance from 2002. The system is designed to be simpler and cheaper than other WPANs such as Bluetooth, and is aimed at applications with low data rates and low power consumption. It operates in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz, 915 MHz and 868 MHz bands, uses DSSS, and focuses on the lower protocol layers (PHY and MAC). The data rate is 20 kbit/s per channel. Transmission range is between 10 m and 75 m.

The ZigBee Alliance has a web site at http://www.zigbee.org.
