York University

University in Toronto, Canada. York University was founded on March 26, 1959, with a first class of 76 students in September 1960. As of the year 2000 there are approximately 40,000 registered students attending York University.

York University is also the generally used name for the University of York in York, England founded in 1963 with 200 students and just three buildings. Today its population totals over 10,000 and it boasts 30 academic departments. One of a group of universities founded in the 1960's to allow expansion of the university system, York has gone on to establish an academic record that compares favourably with the best of the older British universities.
