Whisky
Whisky is an alcoholic beverage distilled from malt. The name has evolved from the Gaelic "uisge beatha" (water of life). Whisky is drunk straight, with water or ice, or mixed with other spirits.
Whiskey is the United States spelling. Some writers reserve "whiskey" for the spirits distilled in the United States and Ireland and "whisky" for those distilled in Great Britain and Canada--but there are many exceptions. The Welsh version is "wysgi".
Whisky is sold either as single malt or as blended. Single malt whisky comes from only one distillery and is of a uniform age whereas blended whisky is put together from different brands and ages.
