Vale of Glamorgan

The Vale of Glamorgan is an exceptionally rich agricultural area in the southern part of the county of Glamorgan, Wales. It has a rugged coastline, but its rolling countryside is quite untypical of Wales as a whole.

Recent local government reorganisation has elevated the "Vale" to the status of a unitary authority, as well as a parliamentary constituency. The main town and largest centre of population is Barry. Other small towns are Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Penarth, but a large proportion of the population inhabits villages, hamlets and individual farms.

The district borders Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend to the north, and the Bristol Channel to the south.

Villages of the Vale include:

  • Aberthin
  • Bonvilston
  • Colwinston, Corntown
  • Ewenny
  • Llanblethian, Llancarfan, Llandough, Llandow, Llanmaes, Llansannor, Llantrithyd, Llysworney
  • Ogmore-by-Sea
  • Pendoylan, Penllyn, Penmark, Peterston-super-Ely
  • Rhoose
  • Sigingstone, St. Athan, St. Donat's, St. Hilary, St. Mary Church, St. Nicholas, Sully
  • Wenvoe, Wick
  • Ystradowen
