USS Chung-Hoon (DDG-93)

USS Chung-Hoon (DDG-93) is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis destroyer, named in honor of Rear Admiral Gordon Pai'ea Chung-Hoon (1910-1979), recipient of the Navy Cross for his courageous leadership after a devastating kamikaze attack in 1945 left several of his crew dead and his ship, USS Sigsbee (DD-502), severely crippled. The contract to build her was awarded to Northrop Grumman Ship Systems on March 6, 1998, and her keel was laid down on January 14, 2002, at Ingalls Shipbuilding, Incorporated. She was launched on January 11, 2003, sponsored by Michelle Punana Chung-Hoon, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Gordon Chung-Hoon's niece, and will be commissioned in 2004.
