Upper Silesia

Upper Silesia (Polish Gorny Slask) is a region containing actual Opole Voivodship and Silesian Voivodship (partly also Lesser Poland Voivodship and Northern Moravia county of the Czech Republic with its towns Ostrava, Cieszy/Cesky Tesin, Karvina, Frydek-Mistek). Historically the capital of Upper Silesia was Opole, nowadays the most important is Katowice, the capital of Silesian Voivodship, while also the meaning of "Upper Silesia" is being shortened to Silesian Voivodship. Major cities: Katowice, Chorzow, Opole, Raciborz, Rybnik, Bytom, Jastrzebie Zdroj, Mikolow, Gliwice, Zabrze, Myslowice, Bielsko-Biala, Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Lubliniec, Cieszyn, Oswiecim.
