University of Cologne

With approximately 63.000 students, the university of Cologne is the largest university in Germany, followed by Munich University. Faculties exist for economics and social science, law, medicine, philosophy, mathematics and natural science, educational science, and remedial education.

History

The university originally existed from 1388 (foundation right of Pope Urban VI) to 1789 (dissolved by the French Government) and was re-established in 1919 by means of a treaty with the Prussian Government.
