United States National Republican Party

National Republican Party was a United States political party that existed in the first half of the 19th century. It was the forerunner of the United States Whig Party.

During John Quincy Adams's presidency the United States Democratic-Republican Party began to split, thoses who supported Adams became known as the National Republicans, while others supported Andrew Jackson and formed the modern day Democratic Party.
