The Quiet Man
The Quiet Man was a 1952 film starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Victor McLaglen. Set in the west of Ireland, it was based on a short story by Maurice Walsh, about an expatriate Irishman who comes home to claim a bride. The story bears many resemblances to Shakespeare's The Taming of the ShrewFor John Wayne, the film was something of a departure, as it did not require him to play a cowboy.
The village of Cong in County Mayo was the setting for the film, and many of the houses used during the shooting can still be seen.
