The Hero With a Thousand Faces

This influential study (ISBN 0691017840) by mythologist Joseph Campbell traces the story of the hero's journey and transformation through virtually all the mythologies of the world. Its basic premise owes much to the concept of the collective unconscious and other theories of C. G. Jung.

Originally published in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has inspired generations of students and artists (most notably George Lucas and numerous other filmmakers, novelists and comic book authors) and sold nearly one million copies in various editions.
