SS Andrea Doria

The SS Andrea Doria was an ocean liner sailing from Genoa for the Italian Line, named after a Genoese admiral named Andrea Doria.

The ship slid into the water on June 16, 1951. The ship was considered to be one of the most beautiful ocean liners made after World War II. Her maiden voyage came on January 14, 1953.

On July 25, 1956, the bow of the SS Stockholm of the Swedish-American Line collided into the Andrea Doria's port side. Around 50 passengers were killed in the collision. The rest of the passengers were rescued from the ship, which took 14 hours to sink. The SS Stockholm did not sink and operated afterwards.
