Rotes Rathaus

The Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall - named for its colour) on Rathausstraße, is the town hall of Berlin. It has functioned in this role since its construction in the 1860s.

The Rotes Rathaus

During the Cold War (and after its reconstruction during the 1950s to the plans of original architect Hermann Wäsemann) it served only as the town hall of East Berlin, with the Rathaus Schöneberg housing the West Berlin senate. The unified administration of Berlin officially moved back in in 1991.
