Regions of Portugal

There are 5 Regions (regiões, singular - região) in mainland Portugal:

  • Algarve
  • Alentejo
  • Centro
  • Lisboa e Vale do Tejo
  • Norte

These regions are the portuguese NUTS II subdivisions, based not at the district level, but at the municipal one, leading to large inconsistencies between district and region limits. Each of the two authonomous regions is its own NUTS II region.

Municipalities are at NUTS IV level. In between there's stastistical regions with no administrative value of their own.
