Receptor

A receptor receives something from a donor. Often, receptor means a structure that recognizes a specific signal affecting anyone of our five senses, for example, odour; smell; hearing; taste; touch or light.

In biology, receptors are often embedded in cell membranes (see transmembrane receptor).
