Public Image Ltd

Public Image Ltd (P.I.L.) was fronted by John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) after the Sex Pistols broke up. Far more experimental than John Rottens former group, P.i.l. created some of the strangest music to come out of the early post punk scene, using heavy bass and dub backed up by skittery guitar work; over which John Rotten howled agitated, paranoid steam-of-consciousness lyrics.

Their later work became more poppy, although certainly never pop. Nonetheless, they never gained the kind of notice or acclaim the Sex Pistols did, and their music hasn't had anywhere near the same kind of influence.
