Obfuscation

Obfuscation is a process for making impossible or at least more difficult accessing the source code of a computer program, either by converting the source code into unreadable but functionally identical one, or by preventing the binary code from being reverse engineered.

As a side effect, obfuscation often also makes the resulting programs smaller.
