Oath of office

An oath of office is a sworn statement/oath a person takes before officially assuming the office. It is administered at a swearing-in ceremony, or inauguration, and, most of the time (in Western countries), sworn with one hand on the Bible.

In the United States, the oath of office for the President of the United States is specified in the U.S. Constitution. The oath may be sworn or affirmed.
