Netscape Communications Corporation

Netscape Communications Corporation was the publisher of the Netscape Navigator browser, first released as Mosaic Netscape 0.9 on October 13, 1994. It was renamed from the Mosaic Communications Corporation, founded by Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark on April 4, 1994. It had a successful IPO on August 9, 1995, started the Mozilla project in January 1998, and became part of AOL in November 1998. Today, AOL is owned by AOL Time Warner, which disbanded the browser departement of Netscape Communications Corporation in July, 2003.
