Mount Palomar Observatory

Mount Palomar Observatory operates 90 miles southeast of Mount Wilson Observatory, on Mount Palomar in San Diego County, California.

It houses the 200-inch Hale Telescope and a 60 inch telescope, which is operated by the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).[1]

The Hale Telescope

This 200-inch telescope was built by a Caltech-Carnegie consortium using a Pyrex blank manufactured by Corning Glass works. This telescope saw 'first light' in 1949, and became the largest in the world, at that time.

The Hale Telescope is operated by a consortium of CalTech, JPL and Cornell.[1]
