Microsoft FrontPage
Microsoft FrontPage is a WYSIWYG HTML editor and web site administration tool from Microsoft.FrontPage was initially created by the Cambridge, Massachusetts company Vermeer Technologies Incorporated, evidence of which can be easily spotted in filenames and directories prefixed _vti_ in web sites created using FrontPage. (Vermeer was acquired by Microsoft in 1996 specifically so Microsoft could add FrontPage to its product line-up.)
FrontPage used to require proprietary plug-ins known as the FrontPage Server Extensions to be installed in the target web server for it to work. However newer versions of FrontPage also supports the standard WebDAV protocol from W3C.
A version for MacOS was released around 1998; however, it had many fewer features than the PC product, and Microsoft never updated it.
Some professional web developers have disdain for FrontPage, because they believe it produces comparatively poor, bloated HTML code.
