Macrinus

Marcus Opellius Macrinus, Roman emperor (born about AD 165, reigned 217 - 218).

Macrinus was Praetorian prefect, effectively second in command of the Empire, under his predecessor Caracalla. He was proclaimed Emperor April 11, 217.

Macrinus was unable to consolidate his rule, and Julia Maesa (Caracalla's aunt) and her daughter Julia Bassiana raised a revolt in favor of Bassiana's son Heliogabalus on May 15, 218. He was killed in battle against the Severan forces on June 8, 218.
