Maasmechelen
Maasmechelen is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1st, 2002 Maasmechelen had a total population of 35,751 (17,768 males and 17,983 females). The total area is 77.13 km² which gives a population density of 463.52 inhabitants per km².Cultural events: One of the annual cultural events is the carnival-parade. People with masks are entertaining the visitors. carnival starts the 11th of november. The parade is the most important day for members of a carnival-association.
Sports: The region has delivered quite some sportpersonalities: Marc Steevens from Maasmechelen used to be the fastest white man (100 meters); Heidi Rakels from Maasmechelen was very good in judo-sport; Stefan Everts from Neeroeteren has been several times the worldchampion motocross and Kim Clijsters is the 3th best female tennisplayer of the world right now !
