Warning: Spoilers Follow

Before his son's, and Harry's, second year, he was planning on opening the Chamber of Secrets, using the diary of Tom Riddle. His House-Elf, Dobby, snuck out of the house to warn Harry not to return, but failed.

Malfoy's plan was almost successful, but Harry managed to discover the truth and destroyed the memory of Tom Riddle. Harry also tricked Malfoy into setting Dobby free and Malfoy was sacked as a school governor.
