Köpingsvik

Köpingsvik is a village in the municipality of Borgholm, province of Öland, county of Kalmar, located 4 km east of Borgholm; approximately 680 inhabitants, 1996. It is known as tourist center with large and modern camping sites.

History:

Köpingsvik is mentioned by some amateur historians as a possible alternativ to Björkö as the old Birka in Svitjod, ancient Sweden, which is mentioned amongst others in Vita Ansgari and the work of Adam of Bremen. Professional historians refute this idea.
