Biography
The right-hander from Spring, Texas has grown to become one of the premier young pitchers in the league. His regular season play was decent, although unmarked. However, he erupted in the postseason, with two great performances (three days apart) in the 2003 World Series. He is a power pitcher, with a 97 MPH fastball, and a consistently 90 MPH changeup and curveball. Teamed up with Ivan Rodriguez, the star catcher, he helped the Marlins win the World Series, 4 games to 2.
He is generally a power pitcher who sometimes has problems with his control. However, he is good in clutch situations. He is not a very good hitter (few pitchers are), but he is on an American League team, limiting his batting opportunities. His fielding skills are rather good, although he is not as good a fielder as some other pitchers (such as Mike Mussina).
