Jackie Fisher

John Arbuthnot Fisher, 1st Baron Fisher of Kilverstone (1841-1920), commonly known as "Jackie" Fisher, was a British admiral.

Fisher was born in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) to an English family, and joined the navy in 1854. He served in the China Wars of 1859-1860, and later in the Egyptian War of 1882. In 1892 he was created a lord of the admiralty, and in 1894 became First Sea Lord. Following his retirement, he was recalled to this position during the First World War, after the forced resignation of Prince Louis Battenberg.

Admiral Fisher was a close personal friend of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
