Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan (born September 1, 1957) is a Latin rock-pop star, one of a number of them to achieve mainstream success in North America.

Cuban-born Estefan was raised in Miami and was a member of Miami Sound Machine. They soon gained a large fanbase and released an LP in 1979. It was the first all-Spanish album from CBS International. In 1985, Miami Sound Machine began recording in English with Primitive Love in 1985. "Conga", "Bad Boy" and "Words Get in the Way" were crossover hits, and the next LP, 1988's Let It Loose was multi-platinum.

While touring in support of it, Estefan was in a vehicle accident and injured her spine. She was recovering for over a year, but then returned to the charts with Into the Light in 1991. 1993's Mi Tierra was a Spanish-language album and won a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album. Estefan appeared in a movie, Music of the Heart and dueted with 'N Sync on the title track. Her next album, 2000's Alma Caribeña won the first Latin Grammy for Best Music Video for "No Me Dejes de Querer". In 2003, Estefan released Unwrapped, her first English record in five years.

Estefan is married to her husband, Emilio. They have two children: Nayib (born September 1, 1980) and Emily (born December 5, 1994).
