Freshwater sunfish

The freshwater sunfish is a small yellow and brown fish from the family Centrarchidae. Actually, there isn't a particular fish called the "freshwater sunfish". The name "sunfish" refers to the genus Lepomis within the family Centrarchidae. Sunfish have colors similar to the yellow perch, but without the shades - fins tinged with scarlet. Its shape is broad and flat like a pumpkin seed, and in some places the fish is known by that name. There are many other names, such as bluegill, red-ear, etc. Sunfish are usually from three to eight inches (8-20 cm) long.

The freshwater sunfish is altogether different from the marine sunfish.
