Formicinae

The Formicinae is a subfamily within the Formicidae containing ants of moderate evolutionary development.

Whilst some members are highly plastic, they also retain some primitive features such as the presence of cocoons around pupae.

This sunfamily contains many of the most well-known ant species, including the genera:

  • Lasius
  • Formica
  • Camponotus
  • Polyergus
