El Al Israel Airlines (Hebrew "Skyward") are the national airline of Israel and are well-known for their strict security. It is based at Ben Gurion International Airport in Lod. It uses the IATA designator LY.
El Al was established in late 1948, just after the new country was founded. They currently employ a fleet of about 30 aircraft, all Boeings (747, 757, 767 and 777 models).
The airline is renowned for the tough security on its planes.
