Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens is brand of shoe, especially popular among young people. They are often known as "Doc Martens", "Doc's", or "D.M.s". They have a characteristic air-cushioned sole developed in Germany by Dr. Klaus Maertens (note the different spelling). Maertens sold his design to R Griggs Ltd of Northamptonshire, England, which started producing Dr Martens boots in 1960.

Doc's have adapted by different youth culture groups throughout their existence. The shoes have been the subject of a song and the subject of a photo used as the cover art for a Madness single.
