Cod

Cod forms at least part of the common name for several fishes around the world. The word cod is also the common name of a genus of fishes called Gadus. However, not all fishes in this genus have "cod" as part of their common name, and not all fishes that have "cod" as part of their common name are in the genus Gadus; since the decline in cod stocks has made the Atlantic cod harder to catch, several replacements are marketed under names of the form "x cod".

Following is a list of fish that are commonly known as "cod" in at least part of the world.

Codfish-Cakes

Wash the fish, and after remaining in water all night, boil it. Take out all the bones, cut up very fine and mix with an equal quantity of potatoes; add a piece of butter, cayenne, and a little more salt, if necessary. Then make it out into small round cakes, and fry in butter or beef drippings, light brown on both sides.
