Charles Addams

Charles Samuel Addams (January 7, 1912 - September 28, 1988) was an American cartoonist known for his particularly dark brand of humour and macabre characters. His cartoons regularly appeared in the The New Yorker from the 1938 until his death. Some of the recurring characters became the basis for a television series, The Addams Family, and later a motion picture of the same name.
