CCD-RAW
CCD-RAW (also written CCD-Raw or CCDRAW etc.) is a class of image file formats supported by some models of digital camera. The data is derived directly from the camera's CCD without full processing applied.The CCD-RAW formats have the advantage that like TIFF they are lossless (i.e., data is not approximated to save space, as occurs with JPEG), so will have the highest quality, while requiring less memory than TIFF for each image (apparently due to use of lossless compression)
However CCD-RAW is not a standard image format that can be imported into typical image display or manipulation software. Instead, it must be processed, typically by proprietary software supplied with the camera and run on a computer, to produce a format such as TIFF or JPEG. Since the details of the CCD-RAW format and the processing required are likely to differ for different brands and models of digital camera, this may give problems for some computer users if their computer can't run the software (e.g., under Unix).
