Cahokia
Cahokia was a Native American city which was located in Illinois, near what is now St. Louis, Missouri. Cahokia is best known for large step-pyramid mounds, the largest of which is Monk's Mound; as well as its Woodhenges. The term, "Cahokia", is also used in reference to the Cahokian civilization. The city was abandoned between 1250 and 1400.During the Pre-Columbian era, Cahokia was for a time the largest North American, excepting those of Mexico. Estimates of the city's peak population range from 8,000 to 40,000.
