Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a technique using technology to monitor bodily functions such as heart rate or brain waves with the goal of controlling them so as to increase performance or health. Neurofeedback is biofeedback using brainwaves.

One example of this is a device which signals when muscles are being tensed. Through visual (a light) or auditory (a beeping noise) signals people can be trained to relax their muscles.

There is some dispute as to whether the learning that takes place under biofeedback can be maintained once the feedback is removed.
