Battle of Yamen

In 1279, Chinese general Zhang Hongfan of the Yuan Dynasty anniliated last fleet of the Southern Song Dynasty at Yamen, (today Xinhui County, Guangdong Province). Lu Xiufu and last emperor of Southern Song Dynasty committed suicide by jumping off a cliff into the sea. Zhang Shijie, commander of the Song fleet, escaped from the scene but was later drowned when his ship was brought down in a storm.
