Battle of Ticonderoga (1775)
The Battle of Ticonderoga occurrred in May of 1775, during the American Revolutionary War when a group of militia from Vermont, the Green Mountain Boys commanded by Colonel Ethan Allen and Captain Benedict Arnold, crossed Lake Champlain to surprise the British troops stationed at Fort Ticonderoga, in the northern region of New York. The Patriots succeded in capturing the fort with no casualties and without firing a shot, providing them with weapons and other supplies. The fort's cannon were placed around Boston, Massachusetts to guard against British attacks from that city. Fort Ticonderoga was recaptured by the British in 1777 but abandoned prior to the Battle of Yorktown.
