Barque
A barque, sometimes spelled bark, was a particular type of ship's hull in the mid-18th century. It was a ship-rigged vessel with a plain bluff bow but a full stem with windows. HM Bark Endeavour, commanded by Captain James Cook was a famous example.By the end of the 18th century, however, the word came to refer to a particular type of rig, three (or more) masted with square sails on fore and main but only fore and aft sails on the mizzen.
Throughout the period of sail, the word also was used as a shortening of the barca-longa of the Mediterranean Sea.
