Auntie Mame

Auntie Mame is a 1958 film which tells the story of a young boy who is put into the care of his madcap aunt. It stars Rosalind Russell, Forrest Tucker, Coral Browne, Roger Smith, Peggy Cass and Jan Handzlik.

The movie was adapted by Betty Comden and Adolph Green from the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee from the novel by Patrick Dennis. It was directed by Morton DaCosta.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Rosalind Russell), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Peggy Cass), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White or Color, Best Cinematography, Color, Best Film Editing and Best Picture.

Auntie Mame was made into a Broadway musical, Mame, with music by Jerry Herman, which was made into a 1974 movie starring Lucille Ball, Beatrice Arthur, Robert Preston, Bruce Davison, Kirby Furlong, Jane Connell and Joyce Van Patten. It was adapted by Paul Zindel and directed by Gene Saks.
