Aspect ratio

The aspect ratio of a two-dimensional shape is the ratio of its longest dimension to its shortest dimension.

The term is most commonly used with reference to images (see aspect ratio (image)) or to the wing-plans of aircraft or birds (see aspect ratio (wing)).
