AllostericAn allosteric macromolecule is one that binds a ligand L, exhibits cooperative binding, and has at least two conformational states whose binding coefficient for the ligand is different. The mechanism of cooperativity in an allosteric macromolecule is controlled by the equilibrium between the conformational states (which, because the macromolecule is cooperative, will be affected by the relative amount of ligand bound). |
