Alberto Olmedo

Alberto Olmedo (1933-1988) was a famous Argentine comedian and actor. Olmedo is considered by many, alongside his often sidekick Jorge Porcel, to be one of Argentina's best comic actors.

Beginning with Gringalet in 1959, Olmedo participated in 49 movies. Other movies he made were Los Doctores las Prefieren Desnudas (Doctors Prefer Female Patients to be Naked), in 1973, Maridos en Vacaciones, (Husbands on Vacation, 1975), Fotografo de Senoras (Ladies' Photographer, 1978), Expertos en Pinchazos (Experts in Pinchings, 1979), Los Fierecillos Indomables (The Indomable Little Beasts, 1982), Salvese Quien Pueda (Save Yourself if you Can, 1984), and Rambito y Rambon, Primera Mision (Little Rambo and Big Rambo, First Mission, 1986). His last movie was Atraccion Peculiar, released shortly after his death. Los Fierecillos Indomables had a sequel in 1983. Rambito y Rambon, as its title suggested, had a sequel on the planning stages when Olmedo's death ocurred.

The vast majority of his movies were done with Porcel. Together, they became one of Argentina's most famous comic couples. When they were released on video cassette format, they became famous all accross Latin America.

Olmedo's death had an element of mystery. According to the police reports, he slipped off his apartment's balconese on March 5, 1988, at the vacationing spot of Mar del Plata. But rumors of a suicide or homicide became the theories of much of the Argentine public. Officially, his death was ruled as accidental.
