24 Hour Party People
The 2002 movie "24 Hour Party People" is a movie about Manchester's rock community from 1977 to 1997. It begins with the punk rock era, later the "madchester" scene is documented. The movie is NOT a documentary, even if most of it is based on things that really happened. The main character is Tony Wilson, the head of Factory records. But, as he say himself, the MUSIC is most important for the movie. Bands such as Joy Division, A Certain Radio, New Order, and The Happy Mondays is featured in the film. If you shall describe "24 Hour Party People" with a few words, you should use "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll."The film is directed by Michael Winterbottom. Starring: Steve Coogan as Tony Wilson, Shirley Henderson as Tony's wife Lindsay, Andy Serkis as producer Martin Hannett, Sean Harris as Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, and Danny Cunningham as Happy Monday Shaun Ryder. Lots of those who REALLY were there has guest roles, such as Mani (see under Gary Mounfield) of The Stone Roses, the real Tony Wilson, and Paul Ryder of The Happy Mondays.
